Advice Column
In the Buddhist religion, Siddhartha Gautama's Eightfold Path serves as a guideline toward the development of an ethical and well-rounded human. If followed, the path leads to the understanding of all aspects of life. Although the steps of the Eightfold Path are simple to understand, questions are sure to arise while trying complete the path and achieve Nirvana. I created an advice column to which an average person could ask Siddhartha Gautama for his opinion on a given question or scenario. Siddhartha would then respond accordingly to the question with the Buddhist viewpoint as a reference. In the answer column Siddhartha uses the Eightfold Path to answer the conflicted person's question, and responds to the question in terms of what Buddha would do in that situation.
Trading Cards
The Eightfold Path describes eight steps that when followed, allow a person to reach the end of suffering. I turned the eight steps into eight trading cards that describe the steps toward Nirvana. Each card includes a description of each step along with a picture to portray the meaning of the step. I made the trading cards as a quick reference to the factors that people should follow on a day-to-day basis.
End Suffering Quiz
The quiz I developed with five scenarios and corresponding answer choices was just a fun option to add to my website. Each question presents the reader a scenario in which they pick from three answer choices how they would most likely respond. One choice describes actions that follow the Eightfold Path, while the other two choices are poor examples of proper behavior. At the end of the quiz, I revealed that answer B always corresponded with the Eightfold Path, and I explained why B would prove the best answer to each scenario.
Eightfold Path Collage
I created a picture collage on Glogster that represents Siddhartha Gautama and the Eightfold Path. The collage is full of exciting pictures that symbolize the meaning of the Eightfold Path and Nirvana. The center of emphasis in the poster is a picture of Siddhartha Gautama whom created the path. Surrounding Siddhartha is a picture of a flower, representing peace and calm as other pictures representing harmony. The picture of the seedling portrays new life as a person reaches the end of the path and the end of suffering. Glogster was fun and easy to use, and it allowed me to create a collage to properly represent the Eightfold Path.
