Dear Reader,
I chose to inform you on Buddha's Eightfold Path because I find the Buddhist ideas and morals quite interesting. Buddhism itself is an extremely pure religion, focusing on enlightenment and total control over the mind and self. All Buddhist strive to achieve Enlightenment, which frees the body and soul of all worldly desires. The ultimate goal of Buddhism is to reach ultimate peace with oneself, also known as Nirvana. The Eightfold Path acts like a road map, guiding its followers through eight steps of purification, and the final destination is Nirvana. The eight steps describe factors that will enrich the follower's life, and serve as guidelines to purification. The steps are not sequentially ordered, and it may take a whole lifetime to satisfy the requirements of the Path.
Before beginning research on the Eightfold Path, I knew absolutely nothing about the topic. I chose it because I have always been interested in the Buddhist costumes and beliefs. This topic was one of the suggestions on the informational packet, and it seemed quite interesting. It sparked my interest so I picked it off the list, and began googling. There was plentiful information on the topic, and I chose websites that were easy to understand and spoke in common language. Some websites challenged my knowledge of the topic with their specific word choices and religion-based criteria.
My research questions were quite broad and consisted of gathering general information about the Eightfold Path. My main question was, what is the Eightfold Path and how does it work? This question sums up my research paper as a whole. Other questions I answered through my paper include: Who created the Eightfold Path and who supports it? Why should one follow the Eightfold Path, and What are the steps involved in its completion? I believe I thoroughly answered each question, and fully informed the reader on the topic.
All of my information came from credibly internet websites. I went onto google, typed in "The Eightfold Path," and pressed enter. Hundreds of websites popped up, but I chose the websites with the most credibility. I looked closely at the websites' URLs, and tried to pick sites with .edu at the end. These websites are solely educational and do not include biased opinions or comments. The research was easy to obtain for the Eightfold Path appears to be a popular topic. The websites I used were directly from Buddhist monks or religious informational associations.
Through my research, I learned how the Eightfold Path functions and affects its followers. I learned that the Path is a process toward achieving Nirvana, and it should be followed closely to accomplish the end of suffering. The path was created my Buddha himself, and his advocate Siddhartha Gautama encouraged the teaching of his ideas. This research project makes a difference to me by having a full understanding of one aspect of Buddhism. After reading my research paper and looking through my webiste, I hope you comprehend the basic fundamentals of the Eightfold Path, and it inspires you to research more into the topic of Buddhism. The ideas behind Buddhism and pure and innocent, and I believe our modern world can take a lesson or two from Buddha on the purification of the mind and self. I hope you enjoy the website, thank you.
